Landing on our feet.

A quick update for ourselves and to you reading. We are now installed happily and snug in a new house we are renting. We had quite a serious housefire on the 19th of september, leaving us completely without a home and all our things gone or severely damged.

It has been a alot of work, it has been really tough on the children, and such an ordeal to BUY and find all the things one needs to live. But amazing how quickly one can accumulate. We have been incredibly lucky, and it is just material loss. We are all happy and healthy.
Life goes on quite quickly with small children, wake-up calls at 6am, porridge to be made, walks to be had, the autumn to be experienced and the onset of frosty winter.

Thus, good or bad karma, good or bad luck, is quite realtive to how you take it, we think. We are calm, and sure of eachother and life. The rest is just details.
Admitting we are exhausted is a truth, but unsure or sad would not. We are pretty sure we can stay in this wonderful house until our new one is built, yes- we have to rebuild. Diving into architecture magazines, ready houses, paperwork with the insurence company. Writing detailed inventory lists for the insurence company is equally challenging but necessary, everything must be mentioned if we are to recieve the insurence for it.

Photos from our new view, the house is farther up the hill, great location, and behind the house we can see the mountains covered in the first snow. Sheep just up the drivway.
More photos to come. The first thing Anders did was to buy a digital cmarea for documentaion reasons in the house.
Now back to rythm is priority nr. 1. and then maybe alittle Kindergarden and painting. I missed Michaelmass compleatly, am aiming for an october fest of somekind. Autumnis truly beautiful here, cold and wet, but beautiful.

Everyday is a sunday

The difference between a weekday and the weekend sometimes blur to the sense of everyday is THE day. Anders has been out sailing at a Sail conference in Florø this weekend leaving me alone to do whatever i devise since Thursday. Hence, everyday has been a Sunday, today being wonderful indeed. Amazing that the sun shines one day, and the weeks on end with greyness and rain are instantly forgotten and utterly forgiven.
We spent the day mostly outside, did a quick circle time, with disruptions, and leaf imprints to follow up on our leaf period.
I have been telling Jasmin the story of the Anxious leaf everyday now, from the Live education books. Saturday we did wet-on-wet painting, WITH the little ones. This painting is a learning process for me as well. Getting the right paper, the right wetness and the right time of day.
I told her we were to paint what the little leaf was dreaming as he fell to the ground in a deep sleep.

The Anxious Leaf

Once upon a time a little leaf was heard to sigh and cry, as leaves
often do when a gentle wind is about. And the twig said, "What is the matter, little leaf?" And the leaf said, "The wind just told me that one day it would pull me off and throw me down to die on the ground!"

The twig told it to the branch on which it grew, and the branch told it to the tree. And when the tree heard it, it rustled all over, and sent back word to the leaf, "Do not be afraid. Hold on tightly, and you shall not go till you want to."

And so the leaf stopped sighing, but went on nestling and singing. Every time the tree shook itself and stirred up all its leaves, the branches shook themselves, and the little twig shook itself, and the little leaf danced up and down merrily, as if nothing could ever pull it off. And so it grew all summer long, till October.

And when the bright days of autumn came the little leaf saw all the leaves around becoming very beautiful. Some were yellow and some scarlet, and some striped with both colors. Then it asked the tree what it meant. And the tree said, "All these leaves are getting ready to fly away, and they have put on these beautiful colors because of joy."

Then the little leaf began to want to go, too, and grew very beautiful in thinking of it, and when it was very gay in color it saw that the branches of the tree had no bright color in them, and so the leaf said, "O branches! why are you lead-color and we golden?"

"We must keep on our work-clothes, for our life is not done - but your clothes are for holiday, because your tasks are over," said the branches.

Just then a little puff of wind came, and the leaf let go, without thinking of it, and the wind took it up and turned it over and over, and whirled it like a spark of fire in the air, and then it dropped gently down under the edge of the fence, among hundreds of leaves, and fell into a dream, and it never waked up to tell what it dreamed about.

The four year old is a great age, loving the finger plays and repetitive songs. I love it when i sing and sing and sing to what i think are deaf ears, then suddenly she is reciting the same verse to her dolls over in the corner, when she thinks i am not listening.

Five Little Leaves

Five little leaves, so happy and gay (hold up five fingers)
were dancing about on a tree one day
the wind came blowing through the town
and one little leave came tumbling down

Four little leaves, so happy and gay (put one finger down)
were dancing about on a tree one day
the wind came blowing through the town
and one little leave came tumbling down

Three little leaves, so happy and gay (put another finger down)
were dancing about on a tree one day
the wind came blowing through the town
and one little leave came tumbling down

Two little leaves, so happy and gay (put another finger down)
were dancing about on a tree one day
the wind came blowing through the town
and one little leave came tumbling down

One little leaf, so happy and gay (put last finger down)
were dancing about on a tree one day
the wind came blowing through the town
and one little leave came tumbling down

Early morning musings

Kindergarden at home has begun for full, and it is great, for all i hope. The day flies by so quick when it is broken down into times for everything, breathing in and breathing out. Wednesday was bright and alive, not TOO much rain. Just trying to make a normal day run smoothly is quite a challenge, and i feel the need to stay MORE home, then on constant drives to interesting places all day.
Pictures from baking dragons for lunch, a quick try for the Michaelmas bread on the 29th, popcorn for snack is VERY popular, and Jasmin's constant constant building using all the furniture, bringing all the dolls on ferrys and boats going to far off lands like... Lebanon. Reassuring me she will be back for snack time.

Been using the curriculum I got from Live-education, and mixing it in with my own thoughts, the extensive daily guides by Little Acorn Learning and alot of playing around. Last week was Apple week, and we are doing Leaves this week.

Monday update

We had a visitor from New Zealand last week, whom the kids and I took up to the Folgefonna glacier. Beautiful, clear skies, icy cold, fresh water. It was an amazing experience even for me.

lea in our garden, picking apples, or alternately snails, is a favorite past time.

Apple picking season has just started. They are still a little sour, but perfect for cakes and juice.
Anders and teh children were up in Fitjadalen while I was away with a couple of couchsurfers (recommendable, check it out on couchsurfers.org) and built a fairyhouse, for the little gnomes by the lake.

Rasberry season is sadly enough over, but the freezer is full and the winters jam is secured.

The days are whizzing by here with us. Autumn has definitely arrived, in a sort of melancholic sneaky way, just acknowledging that summer has passed and no more swimming in the sea was a quite a blow. Living in this area is absolutely fantastic, but the summers are not predictable. On the flip side, darker evenings, rain and cold has it's magic. We are outside just as much, picking berries, digging in numerous sandboxes in the area. Noa likes to find the biggest puddles and lay in them, and then have a handful of mud and sand to go with it.
We can light more candles, have more cosy inside time. make more breads and food that take time, since we don't have to run to the beach at every possible ray of sun.

Mondays are now my study day here at home. I have made a fantastic arrangement with a friend of mine to take turns taking care of each others kids. She takes Noa and Lea Mondays, i get little Elias on Fridays. I think she got the worst end of that deal... Lea is a little unhappy about me leaving, but i am back by 2pm, and all is well and happy.

I have started actively the Kindergarten here at home, and will be posting specifically what i do, to document what and where and why. Doing story time with Jasmin is still a challenge with the twins around, they distract her, and me. And doing circle songs and such are a challenge with Jasmin, as she is SOOO rough with them. The ages are so close, but yet so far apart. I am hoping the magic of repetition and Jasmin being more home with me will solve all the crying and delays. These days are also MY learning experiences, dealing with discipline, implementing structure and routine, song and crafts. Much more challenging then writing a masters theses I tell you. Beyond doubt.

Back from southern Lebanon OR mom gone, kids have fun...

In a spur of the moment window of opportunity, I left Anders and the kids for an 11 day fieldwork in Lebanon. It was amazing, amazing because i had a great time, met incredible people and could justify my absence, amazing because Anders is the perfect father, has a great time, and everyone was happy. Amazing because it is possible to do such a thing even though we have so many children. This post is a few pictures from Anders life here at home and a few from Southern Lebanon. Beautiful area. Next time I want to take them all, swimming in the sea, delicious food, wonderful kind and adventurous people.

The Great Roman Hippodrome in Tyre, the biggest and most intact of it's kind. They filmed Ben Hur here, so I have been told. Will have to see it again to be sure.
Intense tour along the UNIFIL blue line. View to Israel. Will try to make a follow up post on this.
View of Beirut where i stayed with some fantastic couchsurfers.

Anders nature table. with blueberries.
Our windvane.
Tea party in the sandbox.

The best way to make sure you don't get wet feet in downfall rain. ducktape.

vacation- summerhouse in sweden

We drove up to Anders' uncle's summerhouse in Vimmerby. A wonderful place out in the woods, just like where Emil lived, and in the exact same area too. We got water from the well, and made food outside in the outside kitchen.

(We visted Astrid Lindgrens World, and Katthult where the Emil films were filmed. I recommend it! And the Emil films are the best childrens movies EVER made if you are looking for quality tv for children. We do not have a TV, but Jasmin gets to seee some Emil once in a while on the laptop.)

Here is the house. Can let the kids run right out the door.

Auntie Anne and little Johannes.
We found frogs down by the lake.
Picked wild strawberries.

Jasmin and Lea built a little dwarf house for the little people. The day after, they had left a cookie!

vacation- Roskilde and birthday

well, well well. Back from vacation. It was actually wonderful to not have neither a phone or internet connection for over three weeks. It has been wonderful family time, and good for the kids to see all the relatives in Denmark. Being on the go with a full backseat is a little challenging, but doable. A lot of stops and swimming, long visits and to be frank, it is the same amount of work, home or traveling. Twins are twins.
Noa and Lea have done quantum leaps of development. Lea is actually speaking in sentences, and Noa is just a REAL man, a stuntman. Jasmin turned four years old while we were on vacation too. Amazing, fours years have just flown by.

We visited good friends in Roskilde twice, Kai and Gitte and their three wonderful teenage children. They have a beautiful old farm house, animals and lots of love. Jasmin said she would like to move here too. We celebrated her birthday there.

Anders and I gave Jasmin two wonderful little Evi Waldorf dolls for the dollhouse, a boy and a little baby in a cradle. Auntie Anne had given her a swing for the doll already. And she got bubbles! Gitte, being an educated Waldorf kindergarten teacher, had a wonderful tradition of covering the gift on the table with silks and scarfs, the same in number as years, each must be peeled off and acknowledged. Beautiful.

We played in their garden, ate outside and picked all the cherries we could eat!
